Jakarta Intensifies Cheap Basic Food Program

The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to provide affordable staple food prices to increase people's purchasing power, encourage price stability, and maintain regional inflation through the Cheap Basic Food Program in various areas of the city.

Hopefully, it can help residents to meet their food needs

Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono inspected Cheap Basic Food activities at Makasar Sub-district Office, East Jakarta, and Galur Urban Village Office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (1/30).

On that occasion, he appreciated the involvement of a private party, PT Suri Nusantara Jaya, which has supported the provision of residents' food needs independently.

"Alhamdulillah (thank God), it is held through the full support of the CSR program from PT Suri Nusantara Jaya. Thank you very much. Hope the steps taken by PT Suri Nusantara Jaya can inspire other sectors," he expressed, in the Jakarta Government's press release.

The cheap market at Makasar Sub-district Office and Galur Urban Village Office was the sixth and seventh location that had been held in Jakarta.

Previously, the same activity was also spotted in the urban villages of Duren Sawit, Penjaringan, Gunung Sahari Utara, Mampang Prapatan, and Jembatan Lima. He also urged all other private parties to work together in this program.

"We continue to invite various parties to establish partnerships in this program. Hopefully, this partnership won't only become a field of charity for those who do it, but the impact will also be felt by those in need," he added.

Jakarta Maritime, Agricultural and Food Security Agency (KPKP) Head, Suharini Eliawati hoped that the Cheap Basic Good program could strengthen synergy between the Jakarta Government with BUMD and private parties.

By spending money by Rp 100,000, buyers can get cheap basic food packages containing 5 liters of rice, 2 liters of cooking oil, 1 kilogram of granulated sugar, and one kilogram of wheat flour. While the retail food ingredients provided are four kilograms of premium rice Rp 50,000, two liters of cooking oil Rp 25,000, one kilogram of granulated sugar Rp 15,000, and seven packs of instant noodles Rp 10,000.

"This program can also educate the community to shop for food wisely and according to their needs. If there are more partners, the types of food provided can further complement residents' needs. Hopefully, it can help residents to meet their food needs at affordable and easily accessible prices," she stated.
